A difference a week makes! What the candidates are saying about the economy.

This has not been a good week. The bankruptcy of Lehman Brothers, the sale of Merrill Lynch and the government buyout of AIG all happened in one week. What's next?

Last week we were talking about lipstick on pigs and this week the debate has shifted on the economy. I am glad the debate has shifted but unfortunately it took three financial failures to make it happen.

I was very disappointed by John McCain's remarks that he thought "the fundamentals of our economy are strong". I can't imagine why he would make a statement like that after millions of people are being laid off, losing their homes and major institutions are closing their doors. What fundamentals?

I invite you to take a look at an article by David Gross from Newsweek "Fundamentally Speaking. Is there any excuse for McCain's gaffe about the economy?" The author looks at the many weaknesses in the economy and demonstrates that there are more items that are not fundamentally sound than positive outlooks. Click here to read the article.

I hope the debate changes and focuses on the economy. To get an idea of the candidate's economic plans I would encourage you to look at their websites. Both candidates have sections addressing the economy.

I am very excited to tell you that there is nothing on each website regarding lipstick on pigs or on hunting down a moose.
