I have been in major hibernation mode and my laptop has been sick.

I was so pleased to hear that Hillary has been tapped by President-Elect Obama as Secretary of State.

DemConWatchblog.com did a great job posting the trascripts and other information regarding today's announcments. You may have remembered that I referred to the great convention coverage by DemConWatchblog.com this past August. They have kept up their work covering the presidential transition.

Here are a couple of interesting tid bits:

Latest news is that Hillary is weighing the decision of taking the Secretary of State position. Rumors are that it is hers if she wants it. Here is the latest report from AP.

Hillary the Trailblazer

I apologize for the hiatus in my blog posts. My post election life has been fun. I have been taking time to relax, work out, visit with friends, etc. I have been keeping up and enjoying the focus on Chicago and the Obama transition. I have to say that it is much fun to watch Chicago from a far when it is 75 degrees in Dallas!

Like many I am very excited about the prospects of Hillary as Secretary of State. I believe it will have a huge positive impact on the perception of our country abroad. But, the last couple days I have been a little peeved at the knocks Hillary has been getting in regards to this possible appointment.

So, it was good to see that Hillary has been recognized for something good!

Glamour Magazine in their Women of the Year edition/program recognized Hillary as the Trailblazer. I'm not a reader of Glamour but I have always been impressed by how they recognize women for their achievements. While in college and grad school, I knew of a couple women who were noted for their achievements in Glamour's college edition of women of the year.

Hillary's campaign staff sent out this information regarding the recognition of Hillary:

Celebrating Glamour’s “Women of the Year 2008:”Glamour magazine honored Hillary Clinton at this year’s “Glamour Women of the Year 2008” Awards ceremony this week in New York. Entertainment Tonight caught up with Senator Clinton, America Ferrera and others. According to America Ferrera: “This has been a wonderful year for women and I think, you know, in large part due to Senator Clinton and I’m always honored to be in her company and I’m very honored to be here today.”

Today, Hillary will be racking up some miles starting in Pittsburgh, Pa then off to the midwest in St. Charles Missouri (St. Louis burb). She will be ending her trip in Duluth, MN. It will be interesting to see where she lands tomorrow.

The Clinton's are campaigning hard for the Obama/Biden ticket and Democratic candidates. I love her quote on Halloween noted below:

“I was thinking about dressing up. And I really wanted to be scary. I’ve done the princess stuff, and this time I wanted to be really frightening so I thought I would dress up like George W. Bush.

“YouTubing” for GOTV: This past week, HillPAC released a new video featuring President Clinton and Senator Clinton encouraging “everybody to get involved. Get out. Do what you can. Crisscrossing the Country: President Clinton and Senator Clinton continue to crisscross the country for Obama-Biden and other Democrats.

In this past week and Monday alone, the Clintons will have traveled to Florida, Kentucky, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia.

WBZ News reported on Senator Clinton’s visit to New Hampshire Tuesday to campaign for Obama-Biden and Senate candidate Jeanne Shaheen: “

At the rally in Dover, the crowd chanted "Hillary. Hillary." Clinton told them it is time for a new direction. "I feel so strongly we cannot afford four more years of the same failed unproductive policies we've had to live with for the last eight years." She added, "Out with the old and in with the blue." On Wednesday Hillary traveled to upstate New York where she endorsed the re-election of Congressman Mike Arcuri in Utica, NY, attended an Erie County Democrats Rally with local Democrats in Buffalo, NY; attended a GOTV Rally for Eric Massa, Dan Maffei Alice Kryzan and local Democrats in Rochester, NY.; and attended the Monroe County Democrats Dinner in Rochester NY. Hillary Sent Me! on Facebook: This week, HillPAC released a new Facebook application to continue driving its grassroots mobilization program

In Pennsylvania, my good friend John Murtha -- a strong supporter for me during the primaries and an important voice against the war in Iraq -- is depending on your help to win.

Raul Martinez in Florida has a great chance at picking up a Democratic seat from a conservative Republican incumbent. The latest polling has this race in dead heat and Raul needs our help to push back against Republican attacks.

Kirsten Gillibrand was one of the earliest volunteers in my first race for the Senate back in 2000 helping to organize Women for Hillary. In 2006, she unseated a Republican incumbent in upstate New York; now she faces a tough campaign in her first reelection.

Pennsylvania's Paul Kanjorski is facing a barrage of negative attacks from Republicans desperate to win his seat. He's a great friend who works hard on behalf of the people in his district; now he needs our help.

And Joe Sestak -- also from Pennsylvania -- is a retired admiral who worked in the White House during Bill's administration. Like Kirsten, he defeated a Republican in 2006, and we need to make sure he wins his race this year so he can continue to speak out for sensible national security policies on behalf of the men and women of our armed forces.

These three friends have been on the front lines fighting for us, and with Barack Obama in the White House they can help put America back on the right path.

On the Trail: On the heels of her trip to Ohio last weekend, Hillary Clinton continued barnstorming the battlegrounds this week for Obama-Biden and Democratic candidates with stops in Florida, Nebraska, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, Colorado, Utah and New Mexico. Next week, Hillary heads to New Hampshire among other states to be announced soon.

“A Tide That Doesn’t Just Lift the Yachts:” Hillary also held a conference call with reporters and voters in New Hampshire previewing her upcoming trip and continuing to make the case for Obama-Biden and other Democrats. The Boston Globe reports:

"I think you know you're on the front lines of the election," Clinton told Obama field offices in a conference call also opened up to reporters. "New Hampshire is going to be critical to our victory." The last eight years have been "very good" to the wealthy, she said, and Obama would only return income tax rates back to what they were under the administration of her husband.

"We want a tide that doesn't just lift the yachts," she said. "We want to lift everyone up." Read more.

Monday on Nightline: In a joint interview with Hillary airing Monday on Nightline, Barack Obama thanked Hillary for her efforts campaigning for him:

When asked about Hillary’s efforts in Florida, Obama responded: “For her to take the time to come down - and she's been consistent in campaigning down here in Florida for us - I think it's part of the reason why we're doing better than a little more than we were just a month ago….She's doing great -- and I told her I can't thank her enough and in places like Florida where she's got so much popularity, she can be a more effective person for us than just about anybody.” Watch here.

“Something I Know:” President Bill Clinton sent the following message to HillPAC supporters today:

Reaching the filibuster-proof 60 votes isn't going to be easy. There are a lot of races that are just about as close as they come. Let me tell you about three must-win races where you can help put Democrats over the top.

In Minnesota, Al Franken has faced some of the worst negative attack ads we've seen this cycle, but he's got a great shot of picking up this seat for Democrats.

In Kentucky, Bruce Lunsford has the chance to kick the Republican's Senate leader out of office - and you'd better believe the GOP is putting everything they've got into this one.

And, Jim Martin is running a race in Georgia that everyone thought was a long shot, but recent polls show the race neck and neck. If you help him keep his momentum going, we can add this one to the Democratic column too.

This weekend, Senator Clinton heads to Florida followed by events in Nebraska and Minnesota. Tonight I attended public rally in Dallas for Texas U.S. Senate Candidate Rick Noriega. Last month, Hillary came to Texas to endorse and hold a fundraiser for Representative Noriega.

I want to congratulate Joe Biden on becoming the vice presidential running nominee. Joe is a friend and colleague, a strong experienced leader and a devoted public servant. I look forward to not only seeing him in Denver next week but on the trail as I work to help Barack Obama and Joe Biden along with many other Democratic candidates campaign this fall.
Democrats are going to have a great and unified convention in Denver next week, and I can't wait to be there. I am looking forward to visiting my friends and colleagues from New York, stopping by events like the Emily's List reception, and doing everything I can to champion Barack Obama along the way. Of course, I will also be getting ready for my speech to the convention on Tuesday night. This week we have heard a great deal from Hillary. Today, her website offered an interesting web chat that gave some insight on what she is up to.

Signs of unity and signs of Hillary

There are definately signs of unity! And signs of Hillary. There are reports of joint statements and rumors of deals being made. An example of unity was a conference call I was on last night for a few minutes hosted by the Obama campaign. The call included high profile Texas Clinton backers as speakers. The Obama campaign has also announced events headlining Hillary on behalf of Obama.

Hillary may have suspended her campaign and endorsed Sen. Obama, but more than half the delegates at the convention are Clinton delegates. I am hearing from many unhappy Clinton delegates and work needs to be done to smooth things over. Perhaps tension has increased with rumors that Hillary is far from consideration for VP. I'm getting alot of email from Clinton delegates and I am on all the email groups. First time I have heard of the march unless I have missed it.
